What? This kind of article is usually reserved for December so that people can plan to begin afresh in the new year. But, realistically, our commitment to Bible reading often flags after a while and we need a bit of a kick to get going again.
If you have fallen off in your commitment, just pick up where you left off and continue. Keep going; you can do it—finish the task you began. Don’t worry about the December 31st deadline. I am currently in my second year of a one-year reading program. What?? While I have in the past read through the Bible in one year, now I often go slower than the schedule because of my interest in what I am reading. I check cross-references and take time to study further, etc. So, I haven’t finished the current one-year program which I started last year. I’m just plugging away, even if it takes me three years.
This brings me to an article I wrote about 20 years ago called, “A Do-It-Yourself Plan” for Bible reading in a year (even if it takes longer). If you are already reading the Bible, don’t change your plan—it’s great that you are consistently doing it. But if you have let it slide or are just getting bogged down and need a new plan, don’t wait until January 1st to begin. Check out my suggestions to easily develop your own plan. But remember, creating the plan is easy; doing it is where the challenge is. May God bless you as you settle into a consistent routine of spending time daily listening to God speak to you through His word.
