Few men have virtue enough to withstand the highest bidder,” intoned George Washington, the first president of the United States, in one of his many speeches.1 Have you compromised your spiritual wallet with Satan-inspired currency? What have you gained at the price of impoverishing your soul? Is it sexual pleasure, adrenaline, prestige, power, influence, more possessions, revenge, or pride?
“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matt. 16:25–26)
Lord, I am able to resist the lower bids for my virtue, but the higher bids are my struggle. May Your Holy Spirit energize my willpower to turn away from them all.
