Like many people, keeping my commitment to daily communion with the Lord has its challenges. Responsibilities, meetings, finances, people issues and family commitments wait impatiently for us to wake up. We need to preempt those forces by taking command of ourselves and committing the first part of the day to our relationship with the Lord. Here are some encouragements from the Word for spending time with God in the morning:
In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. (Ps. 5:3)
Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur, and He will hear my voice. (Ps. 55:17)
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, for You have been my stronghold and a refuge in the day of my distress. (Ps. 59:16)
But I, O Lord, have cried out to You for help, and in the morning my prayer comes before You. (Ps. 88:13)
I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words. (Ps. 119:147)
Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for I trust in You; teach me the way in which I should walk; for to You I lift up my soul. (Ps. 143:8)
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. (Ps. 30:5)
O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. (Ps. 90:14)
In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. (Mark 1:35)
