1God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
God has spoken—mic drop! His final word is Jesus Christ, His Son. God spoke through His Son, God spoke about His Son, and God spoke through the NT writers describing Jesus His Son. But God spoke (and speaks) to us also and, most importantly, “in” His Son. Jesus was God’s mouthpiece, of course, but He was not just a prophet; He was and is God incarnate.
Jesus, Himself, is the message of God to us. If someone asks, “What is God’s message to us?” the answer is, “Jesus.” When I was a young believer, Christians would often proclaim, “Jesus is the answer.” Some unbelievers mockingly responded, “Well, what’s the question?” But, despite the trajectory of all pithy statements toward uselessness, the assertion is still true: “Yes, Jesus is still the answer.” He is God’s solution to the problems of the world and the problems in our lives. He is the answer to the questions of life, its meaning, and its purpose.
God looked down on this broken world that has been reeling since the garden of Eden; He has heard the groaning of all creation (Rom. 8:22) and the cries of His people (Acts 7:34). He feels deeply the needs of people (Matt. 15:32), the turmoil of life’s difficulties (Matt. 20:34), our wrestling with sin and selfishness (Mark 10:21), and our fear of death (1 Cor. 15:55-57). And He said, “I have an answer!”
So when Jesus says, “Remember me,” He wants us to remember He is God’s answer, the Word of God. This goes beyond what He said and did; it is about who He is. He is “I am” (John 8:58). As we study the last words of Jesus Christ, we need to further examine one of this passage in Hebrews 1, which contains the most encompassing description of Jesus Christ.
Lord, thank You for Your written Word, the Bible, and also for being the living Word. My heart is open to what You say and who You are.
