I Am the …

by | Names of God

There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. (John 1:9)

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12)

The Gospel According to John records the well-known “I am” statements of Jesus. We list them here for the broad survey of Jesus’ own self-definition: He said “I am…”

The Bread of Life

I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. (John 6:35)

The Light

I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life. (John 8:12)

The Door

I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9)

The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep … I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me … (John 10:11, 14)

The Resurrection

I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies … (John 11:25)

The True Vine

I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. (John 15:1)

The Way, Truth, Life

I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6)

Lord, You are my all in all. Every single description of You thrills my soul!
