Lifting Up Holy Hands – What the Bible Really Teaches

by | IMHO Blog

Often in popular Christianity, believers go along with the crowd. Positive peer pressure can be good, but it is also important to understand why we do or don’t do things. Lifting hands as an outward physical element of worship or praise is one of those things that people either do or don’t do without an adequate understanding of what is involved.

Lifting hands to the Lord is not just a physical act, but a deeply personal and intimate expression of our yearning and seeking for God. It is a natural response of the heart that desires a closer relationship with God, akin to a child reaching up to his or her father, whether in need or simply to be held. The commands to lift up hands are always accompanied by the command to pray or to praise, emphasizing the spiritual activity and the purity of heart required to approach our heavenly Father.

Priesthood for “Average” Believers
