If God wants to give us the desires of our heart, as we delight ourselves in Him (Ps. 37:4), then it makes sense that we can adapt or otherwise follow the example of the prayers of godly people in the Bible whose hearts delighted in God. While King Solomon was not perfect by any means, as seen in his later life, he began well with his heart turned toward the Lord. While the following is taken from his prayer for all Israel, let it become an individual prayer to express to God our heart’s desire that He help us remain faithful to Him:
“May the Lord our God be with us [me]… that He may incline our [my] hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways … ” (1 Kings 8:57–58)
Adapting Solomon’s admonishment to Israel in 1 Kings 8:61, let our prayer continue:
“Lord, incline my heart to be wholly devoted to You.”
