Spotting an Abusive Man

by | IMHO Blog

The worldliness of the world has crept into the Christian community. It has happened slowly over time, like the frog in the kettle story. I could be talking about many different things (all of which need our attention), but I want to focus attention on one specific thing, namely helping young women in knowing how to evaluate a potential mate, something rarely talked about in the church. For godly young women, the pool of godly young men is limited. Of course, every generation has had the problem; there always seem to be more young women who are serious about their relationship with the Lord than men of the same desire. But the situation seems more acute now.

Young men today seem more attracted to the world through the eye-gate, that is, the media. It is no secret that the movie industry creates its blockbuster movies based on young men’s desire for action, thrill, violence, and titillation. That’s where the money is. Video games enslave many young men, even into adulthood, so that, as one psychologist told me, many never outgrow the emotional state of a thirteen-year-old adolescent boy.

Many books have been written advising young people how to seek the Lord’s will when looking for a life partner. However, one article stood out recently that came through my inbox: A Call to Raise Daughters Wise to Domestic Abuse, by Jeremy Pierre. Excellent reading for all who have daughters and those working with young people. Please pass this on.

Pure Praise – Psalm 150

1Praise the Lord … 6Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. This psalm concludes the inspired biblical collection of one hundred and fifty psalms (also called poems, songs, or chapters). The six verses of Psalm 150 are saturated with thirteen...

Priesthood for “Average” Believers

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, then you are a believer-priest. That’s amazing! What?? Let me explain. In the New Testament (NT), there is no special clergy class that is holier than the rest of us, a cut above the rank and...

Superlative Praise – Psalm 149

1Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones. Superlative praise, extolling God ‘to the max,’ is the theme of this psalm. There is nothing meager about this kind of praise. It is the antidote to an old and tired...
