Of Macrocosms and Microcosms

by | IMHO Blog

Dateline: December 2, 2010,  USA Today. Scientists now believe there are more stars in the universe than previously thought. The estimate currently sits at:  300 sextillion (that’s 300 billion  x 1 trillion or  3 with 23 zeroes after it)!

A lot of stars! Someone has estimated, coincidentally, that the total number of human cells in all people currently alive on this planet is around that same number. I am not smart enough to verify the validity of these estimates, but the numbers are staggering no matter whether they are off by a few trillion or so. Yet the Scripture tells us that the God who placed the stars in the heavens, also numbered the hairs on our bodies. Contemplating either the the minutest microcosms or the enormous macrocosms, we can recognize that our God is an awesome God. On the one hand our problems are small in comparison to the big picture–we need to keep things in perspective. On the other hand, the Creator God of the universe cares about each of us individually, and again, we repeat that we need to keep things in perspective.

Priesthood for “Average” Believers

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, then you are a believer-priest. That’s amazing! What?? Let me explain. In the New Testament (NT), there is no special clergy class that is holier than the rest of us, a cut above the rank and...

Superlative Praise – Psalm 149

1Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones. Superlative praise, extolling God ‘to the max,’ is the theme of this psalm. There is nothing meager about this kind of praise. It is the antidote to an old and tired...
