The Great Rescue

by | IMHO Blog

Thirty-three miners rescued in a storybook ending that captivated the world—what good news! No expense was spared by the Chilean government in rescuing the men trapped 2300 feet below the ground for over two months. A collective cheer was raised everywhere at the report of their successful extraction and liberation from the potential grave. Movie and books rights are being signed, and the details of the story will be read about and seen everywhere. Even a TV series is in the making based on this event.

When was the last time the whole world (it seems) so focused on something that has such a good ending?  I don’t know the answer to that, but I am reminded of another rescue that took place in early fall of 1972. There was a celestial celebration over a young man who had been in depth of spiritual darkness for some 21 years, trapped by sin and guilt. He was rescued with the drama of eternity, Jesus Christ reached down with nail scarred hands and lifted him up to solid ground. Darkness was transformed into light. I thank God for that day 38 years ago when he saved my soul. Every rescue story I hear reminds me of my great rescue by Him who spared no expense, He gave his own life in exchange for mine, on the cross.

Pure Praise – Psalm 150

Priesthood for “Average” Believers

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, then you are a believer-priest. That’s amazing! What?? Let me explain. In the New Testament (NT), there is no special clergy class that is holier than the rest of us, a cut above the rank and...

Superlative Praise – Psalm 149

1Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones. Superlative praise, extolling God ‘to the max,’ is the theme of this psalm. There is nothing meager about this kind of praise. It is the antidote to an old and tired...
